What is the stony coral? Cladocora caespitosa
The stony coral, endemic to the Mediterranean basin, is an endangered species due to the pollution, the coastal erosion, the fishing pressure and more recently the climate change. Known as Cladocora caespitosa, this species is also home to many marine organisms. The efforts of the Turkish Marine Research Foundation resulted in the declaration of the stony coral (as well as many other coral species) as a protected species in the Official Gazette since September 2022. This short film produced by our foundation aims at protecting the stony coral and at highlighting the rich associated fauna. TUDAV is currently working on this subject, so we are counting on your help and support.
